Further information about earning miles
Can I earn miles together with my friends and family?
If you would like to earn miles together as a family or with friends, you have the option of creating a mileage pool consisting of up to two adults (aged 18 or older) and up to five children (aged between two and 17 years).
The award miles of all pool members are combined in a virtual mileage account, and all adults are equally entitled to use the mileage credit, manage the mileage pool, and invite members. Children do not have access to the collective total of pool miles; they can only access the miles they have earned independently themselves.
You also always have the option of redeeming awards for friends or acquaintances from your personal credit.
How long are my Miles & More award miles valid for?
Miles are valid for 36 months from the date you earn them. Unused miles expire at the end of the relevant quarter. Here’s how we’ll let you know when your miles are about to expire:
- The miles that are due to expire at the end of the current and the following quarter are shown on your online statement.
- Subscribe to our Miles & More newsletter to receive a summary of all the miles that are due to expire at the end of the current quarter approximately two months in advance.
Here’s an example: you took a flight from Frankfurt to New York on 12.12.2021. These miles will expire after 36 months at the end of the following quarter, i.e. on 31.12.2024.
How do I view my mileage account balance online?
If you already have a standard Miles & More card, you can find a quick and clear list of your account transactions and your account balance online at any time. Your mileage account is available as soon as you have completed setting up your profile.
If you still have a temporary Miles & More card, you can only use your mileage account to its full extent once you have earned your first award mile.
Tip: download the Miles & More app. The app also lets you view your account in full and request your account balance – even when travelling.
Where can I find the mileage calculator?
The mileage calculator allows you to calculate the miles you can expect to receive quickly and easily. It is available in two modes.
You can calculate your potential mileage credit for your next flight booking in the Miles & More app.
There is also a more comprehensive calculation method available on the website. This works out your award and status miles in detail, including and in particular for flights that you have already booked where you already know the booking class and operating airline.
